They have Tastykakes! Who knew?

That store really is insanely popular. I went there after today's Japanese class (actually the oral part of my midterm, so I got out early), and even after 7pm on a Tuesday night, it was quite crowded. Uncomfortably so, for me, so I'm not likely to go back there very often. Unless, of course, I really have to have some Tastykakes.

The least crowded times to go to Market Basket:

- Before 9:30am.
- After 8pm. (but not Sundays, because they close before then on Sundays) (And if you're after 8:30pm you should probably start with produce because they tend to put it away early.)
- 2pm on a weekday.
- 4:55pm on a weekday.

It's so much cheaper than the other options that I've learned to live with the crowds. I smile a lot and generally accept the flow of traffic (rather than trying to pass carts mostly) and bring a book to read while waiting in line.

I went back a couple of days ago, and once I was in the proper mood (as you said, smile a lot and accept the flow of traffic) it was a lot more pleasant. I'm also very impressed by their produce department, which has a lot of unusual fruit that I'd like to try.

I'm glad your next trip was better!

I've had lots of fun trying interesting produce there, like carombola and asian pears. Also they're the cheapest kiwi supplier around.

I used to *love* butterscotch TastyKakes growing up but when I visited my father o'h a few years ago, he bought me some and they were so sweet I couldn't eat them!

I seriously think they sweetened them up! Which is so very wrong, to tinker with a centuries-old recipe, etc.

I discovered TastyKakes in college, where I used to love the vanilla ones with chocolate frosting, but now they are way too sweet. I find that the vanilla ones with jam filling are still good, though.
