I got at least 9/10 on tonight's Japanese vocabulary quiz (I'm not sure whether I used the right word for a bank account, because we've been given 3 very slightly different ones), I started dinner cooking (sauteed salmon, roasted potato chunks, and steamed summer squash), did homework for about 45 minutes while it cooked, ate dinner, then went back to homework for another hour and a half. Now I'm done with the workbook part of the homework that's due on Thursday, and can spend tomorrow night doing the kanji practice that's also due on Thursday. Oh, and I spent about 6 hours over the weekend doing the homework that was due today.

I've decided that I want to track how long it's all taking just so I can see where the time is going. Some of the homework questions are open-ended enough that I have to spend a noticeable amount of time coming up with an answer before I then figure out how to say it in Japanese. For example, one of the bits that was due today was to come up with 5 sentences of the format "When I was a child I had to do X; now, it's ok if I don't do X". (Because one of the grammatical forms we're practicing is how to say that something is required.) Tonight's homework included a section where I had to make up elaborate excuses for not doing something (grammar for giving an indirect reason and explanation), and where I had to talk a sulky teenager into following house rules (expressing conditions based on something that was said in the current conversation.)

Wow, that's pretty time consuming.
