All spoilers, all the time. You've been warned.

My comment at the end of that episode was, "Well, that was pointless." Apparently they wanted to have a stand-alone 2-hour episode (that they could sell on DVD right after it was first shown), and that didn't change continuity, but why not tell a story where the ending wasn't a foregone conclusion?

You could tell from the beginning that Shaw was going to die, because she was too vivid a character to vanish into obscurity in 6 months (or whatever), and she was never in evidence during any of the regular season episodes where we saw Lee Adama in command of Pegasus.

What did we learn? We got some more details on Cain's tactics, but we always knew that she had committed war crimes because she thought they were necessary. Was seeing them really necessary?

The one interesting point to me was that Gina had seduced Cain. That was not necessarily obvious from what we knew, and it explained Cain's rabid hatred of her. I also liked the scenes with Gina and Cain, and then Gina and Shaw; they were well-done, and not overly obvious.

From this perspective I guess the whole episode had two purposes:

1) The alternate view of what is happening with Kara

2) The brief shot of old style Cylons for those who care

I actually liked the shots of old-style Cylons in the Razor flashbacks (which I watched on YouTube before watching the show, in case they were useful.)

I have no reason to believe that anything that person said about Kara was reliable. Heck, if I were Shaw, I might well have tried to call back just to say that Kara was very important and they should believe anything she says.

I've kind of been assuming that the missing 13th god was going to be the Cylon's creator, or at least the 'one god' whom the Cylons worship. Since this being isn't the one who created new model Cylons I don't think it was him - but my hypothesis is still open.

I think that at the time we met Adm. Cain on Galactica, she came across as batsh*t crazy. I don't think we could really understand her, and what she did, before seeing what happened to Starbuck, and Tigh & Ellen, etc. Because the scary thing you realize, watching Razor, is that Cain was completely sane.

Yes, we knew the plot (except for, as you mentioned, the fact that Gina and Cain were lovers, which explains a lot). But that allowed us to watch the characters -- and Michelle Forbes was fantastic -- with Kendra as our way in.
