Boskone was busy and fun. (Well, except for some worry on Sunday, but I'll get to that.)

I went on Thursday night, after Japanese class. Happily, I knew that there'd be food around, so I didn't have to stop at home and make something, I just went to the hotel, checked in, and went to the set-up area where I chatted with [livejournal.com profile] sfrose while eating a sandwich. Then I helped collate programs, greeted Brother Guy Consolmagno when he got in (it's still a bit weird thinking that someone I knew when he was a grad student is famous), and did a few other random tasks. When it was time to collapse, I went up to my room, to discover that my keycard (which I'd stuck in a pocket) had demagnetized, so I had to go back down to the desk and explain that my purse (and ID) was in my room). They were not fazed (this probably happens all the time), and sent someone to unlock my door who just asked that I show him ID after I'd gotten in the room. I studied my Japanese vocabulary and went to sleep.

I took my time on Friday morning, because I knew the office wasn't opening until noon. So I ate breakfast, worked on my Japanese for a bit, and then went to the office. I helped catalog items for the John M. Ford Memorial Auction. Eventually I had dinner in the Staff Den, and then helped with the auction (and managed to get something for myself--a sweatshirt with the House Stark insignia.) So that was nice. I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] theodosia for a while, then went to my room, discovered that I was too tired to do homework, and went to sleep.

There was less to do in the office on Saturday, so I went to some panels, had lunch with Guy and a couple of other people, and spent a couple of hours on homework. I found [livejournal.com profile] theodosia and we decided to have dinner; when we saw [livejournal.com profile] farwing, we asked her along, whereupon she announced that she was starving and dinner was probably preferable to cannibalism. The restaurant had this interesting food concept--for entrees, you pick a roasted or baked thing (steak, chicken, fish) and two sauces from their list. Vegetables were extra. It made for an expensive meal, and I think a bit more guidance on the sauces would have been good--they had one suggested sauce with each item, but if they'd mentioned that the green peppercorn trumpet mushroom sauce was made with beef stock, I probably wouldn't have gotten that to go with chicken. The service was a bit slow, and I know the restaurant was full, but they should be able to cope with that. Bread came promptly, but entrees took a while, and sometime after we'd told the waitress that we were done and would like to pack up the leftovers, we had to flag her down again to get the check. After dinner, I wandered through the Art Show, and then went to the Awards ceremony, which had an amusing slideshow about the history of NESFA. After that, I went to the Australia in 2010 party and chatted with people.

I was taking my time on Sunday morning, because I figured that things had been generally going well, when I got the news that [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler was in the hospital. Eek! I went to the office, heard some more details, went back to my room to pack it up so that I wouldn't have to worry about that any more, and then returned to the office. Where things were mostly quiet, except for a few minor issues and lots of people asking if we had more news about Deb. Eventually we heard that she was doing better and would be allowed to leave soon, which was a relief. At which point it was time for me to leave, so I did.

About the new hotel: I find the location a bit inconvenient, especially for food. There may be another hotel restaurant next year, which will help, but it's still not going to be as nice as being connected to the Pru mall was. I also disliked the hotel bed, which was not very firm. I'm going to give serious thought to not getting a hotel room next year--commuting will be a bit of a pain, but it'll be a lot cheaper, and I'll be able to get a good night's rest in my own bed.
