Not studying is not permitted

A new term of Japanese has started, with another new teacher. I think I got a B last time, because I got sick somewhere in the middle of the term, and just never really got caught up after that. Also, I didn't study as much as I should have. I'll stop making excuses now; I'm not going to know my grade for about another week anyway.
Our new teacher is very different from the previous one. She laughs a lot, and is very energetic. In fact, she's kind of a speed demon. Last term, we'd take 4 and a half classes to cover one chapter of the book; this term, it's 4, period. The second class of a chapter has the vocabulary quiz, and the fourth has the kanji quiz. We're also going to have a two-day midterm; an oral test one day, and a written one the next. Also, everyone's going to have to prepare a speech for the end of class, not long before the final.
The title of this entry is from one of the grammar rules we went over today. If you want to say that something is required, apparently the way you go about that is to say that the negative of that something is disallowed. So, using the same form that you'd use to say, for instance, that you're not permitted to sing in the library, you can also say that, when entering a Japanese house, you're not permitted to not take off your shoes. Sometimes I can parse this without thinking about it, but sometimes it makes my brain hurt. So I have to do a lot of studying now.
However, with all of this, I feel a lot more energized this term than I did last term. So I'll do my best! (Ganbarimasu!)
